Undergraduate Program: Traveling Competition
About the 2006 NU Traveling Competition
The 2006 NU Traveling Competition was held on November 3rd and 4th (Friday and Saturday), in Lunt building.
The competition was a great success. Twenty six participants from the following five universities participated: Northwestern University, University of Wisconsin, Loyola University Chicago, University of Illinois at Chicago, and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. On Friday evening, there was a welcoming talk, pizza dinner, and a game night to help students get to know each other. Eleven people were put in the dorms at Garret. Then on Saturday, the competition started: six 30 minute rounds with 2-3 challenging questions a piece. The participants were split up into groups for 2-3 students, with each group changing each round. Thus every round, students had a chance to meet students from other schools, and to work cooperatively with them. Feedback from the students was very enthusiastic. Most enjoyed this particular format. After the rounds were over, there was a short of awards ceremony. The top score overall was from Ben Holzer of Wisconsin. Second place went to Yiwei She and Alex Jeffers of Northwestern.
