Abstract:
In 1994, Morton and Silverman formulated what is now known as the Uniform Boundedness Conjecture. A major open problem in arithmetic dynamics, the conjecture includes as special cases the theorems of Mazur and Merel on the rational torsion points of elliptic curves. In this talk, I will discuss a uniform boundedness theorem for unicritical polynomials, along with the relevant tools from Diophantine geometry. I will also discuss connections to other results concerning points of small canonical height relative to polynomials.Date: Monday, February 25, 2019
