Abstract:

Rouquier introduced a notion of dimension for abstract triangulated categories. Orlov conjectured that for a smooth projective variety X we have that rdim D^b(Coh X) = dim X and proved that this conjecture is true for curves. I will discuss basic results about Rouquier dimension and the proof of Orlov's result. I will also give an overview of known cases of the conjecture.
