Abstract:

In this introduction to my talk later during the afternoon I will discuss some of the algebraic structures that are needed to understand the construction of catgeorical Gromov-Witten invariants by Kevin Costello (of former Northwestern fame!). Some of the things I’ll be talking about (this would take a semester to cover in detail, but I’ll give a brief overview of these topics): — A_infinty algebras and their cyclic versions; — Hochschild, cyclic, periodic cyclic and negative cyclic homology; — ribbon graphs and how they explicitly realize an open TCFT from a cyclic A_infinity algebra; — Batalin-Vilkovisky (BV) algebras and the quantum master equation; — Weyl algebras and Fock modules; — modular and quasi-modular forms.
