Geometry/Physics Seminar

Title: Introduction to free fermions, integrable hierarchies and matrix models, II
Speaker: Alexander Alexandrov
Speaker Info: CRM, Montreal and ITEP, Moscow
Brief Description: This is the second of two introductory talks for this week's Geometry and Physics seminar on Thursday
Special Note:
Abstract:

In these two talks I will give a brief introduction to the integrable hierarchies of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) type. In particular, I will discuss the description of tau-functions in terms of free fermions, introduced in the works of the Kyoto school in the eighties. Using this description I will briefly describe the Sato Grassmannian, W-algebra of symmetries, Kac-Schwarz operators, Miwa parametrization and matrix models of Kontsevich type.
