Abstract:

The aim of this talk is to to discuss how the theory of canonical metrics and its algebraic counterparts can be employed to address the uniformization problem for complex projective varieties with vanishing first and second Chern classes. The starting point will be a brief review of the solution to this problem in the smooth setting via Kähler-Einstein metrics. Next, the problem of extending this result to singular spaces will be discussed, with a special emphasis on those varieties with only isolated singularities.
