In the variational approach to the finding of Kahler-Einstein metrics on Fano manifolds, or constant scalar curvature Kahler metrics, existence is equivalent to the coercivity of certain convex energy functionals, which are related to algebraic stability criteria, like K-stability. I will describe a formula that explicitly computes the asymptotic slopes of these functionals along algebraic degenerations of the metric on Kahler surfaces, extending results of Phong-Sturm on Riemann surfaces.Date: Monday, October 03, 2016
