Abstract:

Analytic number theorist have been recently making striking progress on long-standing conjectures concerning the multiplicative structure of consecutive integers. First, we now know that there are infinitely many bounded gaps between consecutive primes. This goes a long way towards the famous twin prime conjecture and is due to Zhang and Maynard-Tao. Secondly, we have been making progress towards the Chowla conjecture which has been long thought to be at the same depth as an asymptotic estimate for the number of twin primes up to x. Here I will describe contributions due to various combinations of the speaker, Matomaki and Tao.
