Abstract:

Arithmetic statistics asks questions like "How many number fields are there with Galois group G and discriminant < X?" I'll discuss a way of formulating similar questions using invariants related to the discriminant, and what standard heuristics of Malle and Bhargava say about these questions. I'll also prove a classification theorem for such invariants.
