Morse theory explores how the behavior of a function on a smooth manifold near its critical points can provide topological information about the manifold. In this short introduction to the subject, I will discuss an interesting approach due to Witten. I will start at the beginning of the story, assuming knowledge of smooth manifolds and differential forms.
