Abstract:

The "universal" elliptic Hall algebra, as described by Burban and Schiffmann, is an explicitly defined algebra depending on the "Macdonald polynomial parameters" q,t, and it specializes to the Hall algebra of any smooth elliptic curve over a finite field. The Homfly skein algebra of the torus is the space of links in the (thickened) torus modulo the Homfly skein relations, which come from knot theory. In the talk we discuss work with Morton where we explicitly describe the second algebra and show it is isomorphic to the t=q specialization of the first. Furthermore, in this specialization their actions on the space of symmetric functions agree.
