Title: The Picard group in chromatic homotopy theory
Speaker: Rob Legg
Speaker Info: NU
Brief Description:
Special Note:
Abstract:

I’ll define the Picard group of a stable homotopy category and say something about what sparked Hopkins, Mahowald, and others to inject this old invariant into the new setting of chromatic homotopy theory in the mid-to-late 80s. I’ll discuss some of their initial work and then move on to the methods of Shimomura and his collaborators, as well as Goerss and his. I’ll touch upon efforts to realize some of Shimomura’s and Mahowald’s ideas on constructing exotic Picard elements.
