Abstract:

The Iwasawa main conjecture (IMC) states that p-adic Dirichlet L-functions encode very important invariants of the class groups of cyclotomic fields. Motivated by a conjecture of Sharifi, we show that ring-theoretic properties of Eisenstein Hecke algebras encode even finer information about class groups than is provided by the IMC. In an ongoing joint work with Carl Wang Erickson, we show that these Eisenstein Hecke algebras are related to pseudodeformation rings.
