Abstract:

The existence of Yang-Mills connections on vector bundles is a deep and important problem in both mathematics and physics. A deep theorem of Donaldson-Uhlenbeck-Yau states that the existence of a Yang-Mills connection on a holomorphic vector bundle E over a compact Kahler manifold is equivalent to the stability of E in the sense of Mumford-Takemoto.

The aim of this talk is to discuss some recent progress toward understanding the analytic singularities of the Yang-Mills flow on a holomorphic vector bundle on a compact Kahler manifold, specifically in the case when E fails to be stable.
