Abstract:
Metric spaces (sets equipped with a distance function) are the simplest abstraction of Euclidean geometry, and can be found in all areas of pure and applied mathematics. After introducing them, I will discuss the following questions: how do we decide whether two metric spaces are very similar or very different? Can we introduce a distance function on the space of all metric spaces?Date: Wednesday, May 22, 2013
