Abstract:

The Robinson-Schensted-Knuth correspondence is a purely combinatorial statement, but Steinberg and Spaltenstein independently found that it relates the relative position of two complete flags to the irreducible components of the flag variety in which they lie. Travkin then gave an algorithm for the case of 'mirabolic' varieties of complete flags. We will see how to generalize both results to the case of partial flags.
