Abstract:

We discuss a categorical notion of trace due to Stolz and Teichner which generalizes the classical notion when the domain of a morphism is dualizable. This new definition can be applied to the category of topological vector spaces and the Riemannian bordism category (among others). It is such an application that is relevant to proving the modularity of the partition function of a two dimensional field theory.
