Title: Desigularizing stable singularities: an example of Vafa and Witten
Speaker: Professor Andrei Caldararu
Speaker Info: University of Pennsylvania
Brief Description:
Special Note: special date
Abstract:

In my talk I shall explain how the theory of twisted sheaves on elliptic fibrations provides the key ingredient to solving a puzzle posed in 1992 by Vafa and Witten: a physical theory exhibited by them that is smooth (in the physics sense), but appears to not be compactified on any smooth space.
