Abstract:
Asymptotically hyperbolic Einstein metrics have been studied intensively over the past several years, in part because of their prominence in some parts of physics, but also because of the many interesting mathematical phenomena they present. I shall survey the field and discuss some recent progress, focusing on the `geometric cobordism' problem of filling compact scalar-positive 3-manifolds with metrics of this type. In particular, I will describe recent joint work with Michael Singer which (almost) settles this.Date: Friday, November 14, 2003
